Wild Night In Blinn Ends With Doubleheader Split

BRENHAM, Tx. – LSU Eunice split a wild evening doubleheader with Blinn College thanks to a dramatic game one win.  The Bengals scored five runs in the seventh to win 14-13 before falling 8-3 in Game Two.

LSUE will continue its weekend in Texas with a roadtrip tomorrow to San Jacinto College-South.

GAME ONE

The Bengals capped off a furious rally with 10 runs in the final three innings as LSU Eunice escaped with a 14-13 win over Blinn College.  LSUE plated five runs in the seventh inning to complete the come-from-behind victory.

LSUE spotted the Bucs a first inning 6-1 advantage despite Madison Monson's solo home run to begin the game.  It was the freshman's second home run of the early season.  Blinn put up a half-dozen in its first at-bat thanks in large part to Gaby Gomez's grand slam.

After a three-run third, the Bengals managed to break through for four more in the fifth to tie 8-8 off an error, a sacrifice ground out and Angela Donaldson stealing home.  The Bucs answered with four of their own to go up 12-8

That set the stage for a dramatic final inning.  After a Hannah Carpenter walk and Lexi-Jo DeBarge reaching on an error, Lakyn Wales drove them both in with a double to center to cut the deficit to 13-11.  Ally Howard followed that up two batters later with a two-RBI double to tie it.  Darian Doucet provided the go-ahead run in the next at-bat off another double.

Heather Zumo earned the win after re-entering the game in the seventh inning and worked in traffic with two runners on.  After putting the first two Bucs on base, Zumo induced a fly out and two strikeouts to end the game.

The freshman earned the win in 3.2 innings of work, scattering 15 hits and six earned runs while striking out three and not allowing a walk.

GAME TWO

Tori Lopez helped Blinn College answer back, breaking up a tie game in the fourth inning to deliver the Bengals an 8-3 loss in the Brenham nightcap.

Both teams struck for a three run frame with Blinn getting on the board in the first while LSUE tied in the third.  The Bengals scored off a wild pitch and an error followed by Ally Howard's RBI single to centerfield.

LSUE was outhit 14-7 in the game.

After taking the lead in the fourth, the Bucs scored three more in the fifth to go up for good.  Jeanne Trahan was tagged with the loss after throwing 3.2 innings.  The freshman allowed five runs off seven hits while striking out a pair.
