BEEVILLE, Tx. – One day removed from the biggest single inning in nearly two seasons, LSUE again flexed its muscle in one frame to take a 11-1 run-rule victory over Coastal Bend College. The mercy rule win is LSU Eunice's (12-1) ninth already of the 2018 campaign.
The Bengals crossed seven runs in the seventh inning off five hits and five separate Bengals manufacturing runs. Cameron Horton started the onslaught with a run scoring followed by a Nick Bellina RBI. Micah McHugh, Slate Fuller and Hayden Mixon strung consecutive hits together to push the LSUE advantage to 10-1. Jacob Richard capped off the seven-run frame with a sacrifice fly to score Fuller.
Fuller enjoyed a breakout weekend collecting three hits, five RBIs and two runs scored in his first extensive action of the season. The freshman was pushed into full-time duty at catcher following a season ending injury to Austin Kirkpatrick.
LSUE broke through with three runs in the opening inning highlighted by Brent Hebert's two-run home run. Koi Westbrook drove in Jacob Richard a batter prior after Richard opened the game with a lead-off double.
Coastal Bend answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the first to cut the LSUE lead to 3-1. The Bengals came right back in the second with Westbrook's second RBI of the day, again driving in Richard.
Andrew Sheridan held the Cougar bats in check after throwing six complete innings. The Sulphur product sat down the side in order in the second all striking out looking. Sheridan secured his second win of the season after scattering just two hits, two walks and one run. The right-hander struck out five batters while forcing eight flyouts and five groundouts.
Noah Beason pitched a flawless final frame inducing a groundout and pair of flyouts.
