Gulf Shores Trip Ends In Saturday Heartache

GULF SHORES, AL – LSU Eunice's up and down season continued as the Bengals dropped a Saturday pair at the Sun Chief Classic.  LSU Eunice (10-10) has not been more than two games over or under .500 this season.

LSUE dropped its first game of the game to Wallace CC, 6-1, and fell in walk-off fashion to Central Alabama, 5-4.

The Bengals will return home for a mid-week doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi CC on Wednesday.  The twinbill is slated to start at 1:00PM from Lady Bengal Field.  Both games can be seen via live stream on Bengals All-Access at www.lsuebengals.net.  Bayou Sports Network will have live audio of the game with Randy Guillory on the call.

Fans can find the latest Bengals information on social media via Twitter (@LSUEBengalsSB), Facebook (@LSUEuniceSoftballl) and Instagram (@LSUEBengals).

GAME ONE

An early Wallace CC home run was too much to overcome as the Bengals offense struggled in a 6-1 setback.  LSUE managed just five hits off the Governors' pitching combination of Emily Sowell and Mallie Brown.

WCC plated two runs in the first inning on a two-out home run by Schylur Edwards.  After consecutive ground outs to start the game, Alexis Sydnor singled to shortstop before Edwards' blast.

LSUE had two chances to respond with a base runner at third base in the first and third innings but an Emily Henderson strike out and Madison Monson fly out ended those two-out opportunities.

The Bengals plated their lone run in the fifth after Sierra Gasca slapped a two-out single.  Mima Doucet followed with a single to center with Gasca advancing and scoring on a throwing error by the centerfielder to make it a 2-1 WCC game.

Doucet and Gasca each had a pair of hits to combine for four of the Bengals' five hits on the game.

Madison Monson started the sixth inning with a lead-off single with pinch runner Lexi-Jo DeBarge eventually landing on third.   LSUE's chance to tie went by the wayside as McKenzie King and Darian Doucet struck out to squash the threat.

The Governor gave themselves valuable insurance with four runs in the seventh inning highlighted by a bases loaded three-RBI double from Alexis Sydnor.  LSUE had one base runner reach in the bottom half of the seventh but flied out to end the game.

Heidi Zumo (0-3) was tagged with the loss after throwing a complete game yielding six earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.  Emily Sowell notched the win for WCC.

GAME TWO
LSU Eunice ended its stay in Gulf Shores with heartbreak as Courtney Ray's sacrifice fly helped Central Alabama walk off on the Bengals, 5-4.

The two teams sparred for five innings with the teams combining for just four hits.  The offense picked up in the sixth as Emily Henderson's double scored Kelci Bodin and a single from Lakyn Wales helped the Bengals take a 3-1 edge.

The Trojans responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning off a Payton Fielding double and an Emily Henderson error.  Amber Parker's one-out pop-up was misplayed allowing two more runs to score and give Central Alabama its first lead of the game.

The chess match continued with LSUE responding in the seventh inning as Kelci Bodin plated Ally Howard on a sacrifice fly after Howard reached on a hit by pitch to tie 4-4.

That set the stage for Central Alabama's send off.  Heather Zumo issued back-to-back walks to start the inning with the runners advancing to second and third on a Shatima Smith single to load the bases.  Ray lifted a one-out flyball to center that helped Zoe Trammel to score from third.

Zumo (5-5) was tagged with the loss after coming on in relief of her sister, Heidi.  Heidi pitched an inning after arguably the best performance of the season from Jeanne Trahan.  The freshman pitched five full innings allowing two runs, one earned, off four hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk.

LSUE had scored its first run of the game in the first inning after Mima Doucet scored on a wild pitch.  Doucet led off the game with a single to left field.
