Howard Provides Clutch Hits In Hinds Sweep

RAYMOND, Ms. – Ally Howard helped LSU Eunice come from behind with a bases clearing 3-run double to help spark the Bengals in a Saturday sweep of Hinds CC.  Howard accounted for five RBIs in the two wins over the Eagles.
 
LSU Eunice used a complete game two-hit shutout from Heather Zumo to take down Hinds 7-0 in the opener, followed by Howard's heroics in an 8-5 finale.  The Bengals (12-10) improved to 13-1 all-time against the Eagles.
 
The Bengals' Mississippi road trip continues on Sunday.  LSUE faces Holmes CC for a twinbill starting at 1:00PM.
 
GAME ONE
 
Heather Zumo struck out seven batters in a row during a 12 strikeout performance in LSUE's 7-0 shutout of Hinds CC.
 
After allowing two walks in the first inning, Zumo (6-5) allowed just two hits the remaining seven innings as the freshman notched her first career double-digit strikeout effort.
 
The LSUE bats broke through after Haley Godeaux stole home in the fourth to get the Bengals on the board, followed by back-to-back run scoring doubles by Mima Doucet and Godeaux that were part of a three-run third inning.
 
Godeaux led the offensive effort in Game One going 3-for-4 with a RBI, two runs scored and stolen base.  LSUE produced 11 hits including multi-hit games from Emily Henderson and Angela Donaldson.
 
Ally Howard and Angela Donaldson delivered the final blows with RBI-singles in the seventh. 
 
GAME TWO
 
Ally Howard provided the heroics with a two-out, bases loaded 3-RBI double to give LSU Eunice a come-from-behind 8-5 victory to secure the sweep of Hinds.
 
The hit helped LSUE rally after seeing its early 4-0 lead evaporate with five Hinds runs in the middle innings.  Jeanne Trahan (3-2) came in relief of Kaeleigh Crutchfield notched the win after 2.2 innings of one-hit relief to help hold off the Eagles surge.
 
The Bengals stormed out of the gate after Emily Henderson stroked a two-run single in the first inning, followed by Heidi Zumo's first collegiate RBI to make it a 3-0 LSUE advantage after one inning.
 
Henderson followed that up with a run scoring double in the second push the Bengals' edge to four.
Heather Zumo made another appearance to close the game with one inning of relief with two strikeouts to end the game.
