NEW ORLEANS, La. – LSU Eunice used a stellar defensive effort in the final quarter to rally from a six-point deficit and take down Delgado CC, 54-50. The win is the Bengals 15
th straight, one away from tying a program record.
LSUE (19-2) held the Dolphins to just 1-for-17 from the floor in the fourth and outscored the Dolphins 16-5 in that final quarter. Arianna Dargin led the way in the quarter with six points and paced the Bengals offense with 14 points on the night.
Delgado entered the fourth quarter ahead of the Bengals, 45-38. LSUE held the Dolphins on three consecutive possessions during a 6-0 mini-run in the first 1:01 of the quarter to get within one point. That was part of a 10-2 spurt that helped LSU Eunice regained the lead for the first time since the first quarter, 48-46. Dargin scored all six of her points in the fourth frame in that span.
LSU Eunice held a slim 51-50 edge after a Tarralyn Moses jumper with 1:05 remaining. The Bengals held the Dolphins on three straight possessions and sunk three free throws in the final minute to secure the win.
The Dolphins' Moses led all scorers with 20 points.
The Bengals received big contributions from freshmen Whitney Landry and Bethany Broussard who each pumped in 10 points on the night. Landry added 12 rebounds for her first double-digit rebound game and first career double-double.
LSUE found itself in an early 8-point hole after Delgado ripped off a 9-0 run late in the first quarter to take control, 17-9. The Bengals closed the gap to 20-19 early in the second quarter off a JaNaijia Marks putback with 8:28 to go before half. The back and forth continued into intermission with LSUE trailing, 29-23.
The Dolphins swelled their lead to 10 points, 45-35, thanks to two Moses free throws with 2:31 to go in the third quarter. A Rylie James free throw, her lone point of the game, and Bethany Broussard's basket cut the deficit to seven before the Bengals fantastic fourth.
