EUNICE, La. – Freshman Chance Clark capped off a seven-hit weekend with a three-hit performance in LSUE's 11-4 win over Murray State. The South Beauregard HS product drove in three runs and scored three times for the Bengals.
Both teams plated a run in the first inning with LSUE's run coming from Brent Hebert's single to right field, scoring Chance Clark. The Bengals put two more runs on the board in the second after Jacob Richard knocked in Tristan Welch followed by Clark's sacrifice fly.
Murray State answered with two in the third off with a two-run single by Tyler Smith, tying the game 3-3.
LSUE broke away with a four-run fourth inning after Chance Clark drove in a pair on a single to left field followed by an Aggie error on Jacob Richard's pop-fly that allowed a run to score. Clark made it a 6-3 Bengals score later in the inning on a first-and-third double steal.
Jacob Spell (2-0) held down the Aggie offense after relieving starter Nathan Holmes. Spell pitched 3.1 innings scattering three runs, two earned, on four hits and one walk. The freshman struck out a game-high six batters.
Austin Bradford also shined in relief going 3.1 innings of hitless relief, striking out five batters.
Koi Westbrook extended the LSUE lead to four runs with an RBI-double to plate Tristan Welch. Welch was a perfect 4-for-4 on the afternoon with two runs scored.
The Bengals delivered the knockout blow with a three-run eighth inning highlighted by Richard's second run scoring single. Mason Templet's sacrifice fly and another Murray State error allowed the other two runs to come across.
LSU Eunice will shift gears to a home-and-home weekend against Baton Rouge CC. The Bengals play in the Capital City Friday and Sunday sandwiched with a home date Saturday at 6:00PM. Fans can listen to all three games on the Bayou Sports Network with Randy Guillory on the call. A live video feed will be on Bengal All-Access for Saturday's home date.
