Bengals Ride Zumo To Secure Split With Southeastern

EUNICE, La. – After taking a pair of games against Southeastern on Monday, LSU Eunice split its twinbill with the Blackhawks to close out the four-game set.  The Bengals fell in Game One, 4-3, and won the finale 4-1.

Heather Zumo provided another complete game in the circle to help the Bengals secure the Game Two victory.  The freshman came in relief during Game One, throwing the final 1.2 innings of Game One.

LSUE (27-14) will continue its current six-game homestand with a pair against Pearl River CC.  First pitch on Friday is set for 1:00PM and can be seen on Bengals All-Access.

GAME ONE

LSU Eunice's seventh inning rally fell just short as the Bengals dropped a 4-3 decision to Southeastern CC.

The Bengals started the final frame with three consecutive hits to score a run and have two runners on base.  Hannah Carpenter completed the string with an opposite field run scoring single to right field, plating Madison Monson.  After McKenzie King and Ally Howard struck out, Lakyn Wales flied out to squash the comeback attempt.

The Bengals held an early advantage after Madison Monson drove in Sierra Gasca on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.  SCC responded with three unanswered including a fifth inning solo home run by Raylin Featheringill.

Darian Doucet worked a bases loaded walk to get LSUE within 3-2 but the Blackhawks made good on a Bengals error to go back up two runs, 4-2.

LSU Eunice outhit Southeastern 9-5, but three errors were too much to overcome.  Heidi Zumo (0-4) was tagged with the loss after throwing four innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and two walks.  Jeanne Trahan and Heather Zumo also saw time in the circle.

GAME TWO

Heather Zumo took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning as the freshman helped pace LSU Eunice to a 4-1 win.  The lone run for Southeastern came off two errors in the first inning.

Zumo (15-5) allowed two hits in her 11th complete game of the season to earn a win for the 10th straight decision.  The Central High product struck out four batters while not issuing a walk.  Her 110 strikeouts currently lead NJCAA Division II.

Haley Godeaux helped LSUE tie the game in the second inning scoring on a wild pitch after connecting on a one-out double earlier in the inning.  Mima Doucet gave the Bengals the lead for good with a two-out double in the fifth inning to score Emily Henderson.

Maleah Saucedo and Madison Monson helped extend the Bengals' advantage to 4-1 an inning later off a run scoring single and bases loaded walk, respectively.
