Pitching Guides LSUE To Saturday Sweep Of MMI

EUNICE, La. – The duo of Morghan LaTour and Heather Zumo helped LSU Eunice push its win streak to six games with a pair of Saturday wins over Marion Millitary.  The Bengals (16-10) took Game One 9-2, then capped off the weekend with a 4-1 victory.

The two freshman arms combined for 13 innings, giving up three runs off 13 hits and four walks while striking out 18 batters.

Zumo capped off another impressive weekend as the reigning NJCAA Div. II Pitcher of the Week won three games, allowing just two runs on 12 hits while sitting down 24 batters and not issuing one walk.

The Bengals cap off their six-game homestand Monday with a pair of games against Coastal Alabama-East.  The twinbill is set for a 1:00PM start time but that could change as rain is expected in the Eunice area.  Stay tuned to www.lsuebengals.net for any updates.

GAME ONE

Morghan LaTour notched her first collegiate victory with a six inning jewel as LSU Eunice cruised to a 9-2 win in Saturday's doubleheader opener.

After giving up a first inning solo home run to Morgan Gaither, LaTour (1-0) did not allow another hit until the fourth inning.  The Rosepine product gave up two runs off five hits and four walks while striking out seven batters.

The Bengals backed their freshman pitcher with a five-run third inning.  Angela Donaldson provided the big hit a two-run double to help push LSUE's lead to 6-1.  Mima Doucet, Ally Howard and Kelci Bodin also drove in runs in that crucial frame.

Madison Monson capped off the scoring assault with a towering two-run home run over the scoreboard in right center to push the Bengals advantage to 9-2.

Monson finished the game with three RBIs and a run scored, while Mima Doucet and Ally Howard both had multi-hit outings.

Heidi Zumo closed the game with an inning of scoreless relief in the seventh.

GAME TWO

Lakyn Wales provided a critical bases clearing double en route to LSUE's 4-1 win over Marion Military to complete the four-game sweep.

That was more than enough for freshman ace Heather Zumo.  The Central High product worked in traffic late with MMI having the game tying run at the plate in the seventh but induced a fly out to end the game.

Zumo allowed one run in the sixth inning and scattered seven hits but struck out 11 Tigers on the afternoon.

The Bengals gave Zumo all the run support she needed in the second inning. LSUE loaded the bases thanks to a lead-off Ally Howard single, two fielder's choices and a MMI error.  Lakyn Wales doubled off the wall in right center to unload the bases and give LSUE a 3-0 lead.

Wales accounted for half of LSUE's six hits, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon.

Kelci Bodin sacrificed the other Bengal run with a grounder to the pitcher in the third inning.
