GAME ONE
LSU Eunice overcame a sluggish start to take down Coastal Alabama-East 5-2. The Warhawks scored the first run of the game in the first inning. It was a frame that saw the Bengals allow two hits, two errors and a passed ball.
The Bengals responded in the bottom half of first with a Mima Doucet lead-off single and walk from Lakyn Wales. Madison Monson tattooed a fastball deep to right center to help the Bengals take a 3-1 edge.
Heather Zumo (10-5) shook off the first inning to allow just one hit over the remaining three innings of her outing. The freshman struck out five batters and walked one in four full innings of work.
Jeanne Trahan came in relief to scatter one unearned run off one hit in three frames.
The Bengals received two insurance runs when Doucet and Wales drove in back-to-back runs off a double to left and sacrifice fly, respectively.
Doucet tallied two of LSUE's six hits, driving in a run and scoring twice.
GAME TWO
A four-run fourth inning helped pave the way to LSUE's 9-1 run-rule win in Game Two against Coastal Alabama-East. It was the third mercy rule win of the year for LSUE, and the first since an 8-0 decision over East Mississippi on February 9.
Madison Monson started the big fourth frame with a two-run blast to center field, giving the Bengals a 5-1 lead. Kelci Bodin and Emily Henderson helped plate the other runs of the inning.
Alexa Lonibos scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch, followed by a wild play in the third that scored two runs.
With Ally Crooks on second, Emily Henderson hit safely on a ground ball deep in the hole to shortstop Brianna Morgan. The throw went wide, allowing Crooks to score and Henderson advance to third. After a brief stare down with first baseman Sydney Kirkland, Henderson tried to score with no throw made to home plate. It helped LSUE push out to 3-0 lead.
LSUE secured the run rule with a RBI-triple by Lonibos and a walk-off run scoring single by Ally Crooks four batters later.
Morghan LaTour (2-0) pitched four full innings, allowing one unearned run off two hits and two walks. The freshman also struck out a batter. Heidi Zumo pitched one inning of one-hit scoreless relief.
