EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice raced out to a six-run lead and never looked back in an 8-1 win over Weatherford College to complete a weekend series sweep. The victory helped push the Bengals' current win streak to ten games.
LSUE (30-4) capitalized on early mistakes by Weatherford starter Maddux Miller. The Bengals loaded the bases after a hit by pitch, walk and Mason Templet single. Slate Fuller induced another base on balls to score Clark and give LSUE a 1-0 edge. Jacob Richard provided two more runs with a two-out two-run single on a groundball to left field.
The Bengals answered the bell again in the second inning off a hot shot grounder by Mason Templet to plate Johnny Johnson. LSU Eunice pushed its early edge to 6-0 in the fourth inning on a two-out two-run groundball to leftfield by Micah McHugh.
Josh Taylor (2-0) continued to solidify his role on the weekend rotation for LSU Eunice. The sophomore quieted the Coyote bats with just two hits and three free passes as the Bengals built their lead in the first four innings.
Taylor finished his six inning outing with seven strikeouts while scattering one earned run on four hits and one walk. His lone run given up was a towering solo home run from Andrew Keefer in the sixth inning.
Gage Trahan relieved Taylor in the seventh inning in just his second outing of the season. The freshman tossed 1.1 innings, giving up one hit while striking out three batters.
LSUE answered Weatherford's lone run of the game with Cameron Horton driving in Mason Templet on a groundball through the hole in right to make it a 7-1 Bengals advantage. LSU Eunice closed its scoring in the eighth off a bases loaded walk.
Templet led the Bengals at the plate with another three-hit game, his third in the last week.
Maddux Miller was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs in 2.1 innings off four hits and four walks.
The Bengals close out their nine-game homestand with a single game against Wharton County on Monday. First pitch from Bengal Stadium is slated for 3:00PM. A live video feed can be found on Bengal All-Access.
