MONROEVILLE, AL – Andy Lee collected his 500
th win as LSU Eunice's head coach as his Bengals split a pair at Coastal Alabama-North. Lee has averaged 50 wins over his ten years on campus, amassing a 500-91 record.
Madison Monson was a bright spot on the day, smashing her 10
th home run of the season and driving in five of the team's runs.
LSU Eunice (19-11) continues its road trip tomorrow with a date at Coastal Alabama-South. The doubleheader from Bay Minette, AL begins at 1:00PM.
GAME ONE
LSU Eunice stormed out of the gates with a four-run first and never looked back in a run-rule 10-2 win to open up the doubleheader against Coastal Alabama-North. The aggressive Bengals offense collected 11 hits while stealing seven bases.
The Bengals collected five base hits in the opening frame with Ally Howard getting the scoring started with a RBI-single to plate Mima Doucet. Lakyn Wales and Emily Henderson followed with back-to-back run scoring hits while Kelci Bodin capped off the furious start with a single to center, scoring Henderson.
After Coastal Alabama-North answered with a run of its own in the bottom half, the Bengals crossed a run in the second off a Madison Monson triple that scored Mima Doucet.
LSUE struck again for the big frame in the third, putting up a five-spot. Monson highlighted the inning with a three-run home run, her 10
th of the season and 5
th in the last week. The freshman currently leads the NJCAA Division II in home runs.
That was plenty of offense for Bengals ace Heather Zumo. The freshman improved to 11-5 on the season with a complete game effort. Zumo threw five full frames allowing two runs, one earned, off four hits and one walks. She struck out five batters on the game.
GAME TWO
The Bengals roller coaster season continued as the bats went cold in critical situations and errors plagued LSUE in a 4-2 loss to split the doubleheader against Coastal Alabama-North.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead after Audrey Lindsey led off the second inning with a double and advanced to third on a throwing error by Ally Crooks in right field. Paige Reach drove Lindsey in on the very next at bat with a single to center.
LSUE answered back with a pair in the third after Sierra Gasca's two-out bunt single was the Bengals' first hit of the game. Mima Doucet scored Gasca with a double to left, followed by a double from Madison Monson plated Doucet.
Morghan LaTour was pulled after the third inning, receiving a no-decision after scattering one earned run on three hits and two walks and striking out a pair.
Jeanne Trahan fell into trouble in the fifth inning allowing back-to-back one-out base hits to tie up the game at 2. Following a fielder's choice, Paige Reach again drove in Audrey Lindsey with a single to left, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Trahan (3-3) was lifted for Heather Zumo who allowed a two-out Kendall Palmer run scoring single in the sixth inning after LSUE led off the inning with an error.
The Bengals had a chance to tie or take the lead in the seventh inning after two two-out base hits from Ally Howard and Sierra Gasca, but Mima Doucet flied out to left field to squash the threat. LSUE managed seven hits on the day, leaving five runners on base.
