NICEVILLE, FL – A day after a 31-hit, 17-run outburst, the LSU Eunice offense stayed hot with a pair of run-rule shutouts. The Bengals defeated Lake Michigan College 15-0 followed by an 8-0 win over Coastal Alabama-North.
Emily Henderson continued her recent tear with four hits, 6 RBIs and a home run for the day. Jeanne Trahan picked up both wins in the circle.
LSU Eunice will play three games tomorrow including NJCAA Division I number one ranked Chipola College. The Bengals also square off with Division One fourth ranked Gulf Coast State and tournament host Northwest Florida State College. The action begins at 12:30PM with Chipola followed by back-to-back games against Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State.
GAME ONE
LSU Eunice used three straight big innings to cruise past Lake Michigan College 15-0 in a five inning mercy rule win. The Bengals collected 10 hits including a perfect 3-for-3 game by Emily Henderson.
Henderson led off the scoring barrage with a three-run home run to left field, her fifth home run and third in the last two days. Ally Howard finished the four-run opening inning with a run scoring single to right field.
The Bengals followed up in the second inning with a five-run output highlighted by Madison Monson's two-RBI double. Haley Godeaux, Sierra Gasca and Ally Howard also plated runs to push the LSUE lead to 9-0.
LSUE closed out the scoring four runs an inning later. The Bengals opened the inning by loading the bases on three consecutive base on balls. Madison Monson drove the first run of the third with a single to left and Darian Doucet scored on a throwing error. Godeaux, Henderson, Gasca and Alexa Lonibos added runs to make it 15-0 Bengals.
Jeanne Trahan and Lexi-Jo DeBarge combined for two-hit shutout, each giving up a hit. Trahan (4-3), struck out five batters and issued one walk in three innings of work. DeBarge finished the final two innings, striking out a batter.
Emily Henderson ended the game with three hits, five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Bengals at the plate. The sophomore was one of four Bengals to collect a multiple hits.
GAME TWO
LSUE plated four runs in the opening inning and used a another solid effort in the circle by Jeanne Trahan to score an 8-0 shutout of Coastal Alabama-North to close out the first day of the Jimmie Stewart Classic.
Ally Howard started off the Bengals with a bases loaded single to score Mima Doucet. Laykn Wales followed up a batter later with a bases clearing double to center field, giving LSUE a 4-0 lead.
Wales came up an inning later to drive in another run, part of a two run second inning. Emily Henderson drove in and scored the final two runs of the game including a walk-off run off of a Sierra Gasca sacrifice bunt.
Jeanne Trahan (5-3) pitched four shut-out innings, giving up five hits and two walks to pick up her second win of the day. Heidi Zumo pitched the final inning, inducing three flyouts.
