EUNICE, La. – Haley Godeaux powered three doubles and paced a critical fifth inning as LSU Eunice upended LSU Alexandria, 7-5. The Bengals used a four-run fifth inning to break a tie a game.
After LSUE (42-16) put two runners on with a walk and error, Godeaux broke a 3-3 tie with a double to left that brought home Emily Henderson and Ally Howard. The Cecilia High product would later score on a two-run single by Maleah Saucedo to push the Bengals' lead to 7-3.
Jeanne Trahan would help LSUE hold on for the win with 2.1 innings of relief. The freshman helped the Bengals sit the Generals down in order in the fifth and sixth before LSUA mounted a rally in the seventh. Three singles helped load the bases before two runs would score. Heather Zumo would re-enter the game to record the final out, a fly out to right field.
Trahan (8-4) scattered those two earned runs off four hits while inducing four fly outs and four ground outs. Zumo started the game for LSUE, pitching 4.1 innings while yielding three earned runs off six hits. She was credited with her eighth save after getting the final out of the game with the tying run at the plate.
LSUA raced out to a 3-1 lead after scoring a run in the second inning and a pair of runs in the third. The Bengals would tie the game in the fourth after Mima Doucet's two-run single. LSUE's first run of the game came off a double by Lakyn Wales in the second inning to score Haley Godeaux.
Godeaux was the lone Bengal to record a multiple hit game, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
LSU Eunice turns its attention to Sophomore Day this Saturday against Baton Rouge CC. The doubleheader begins at 1:00PM with the Bengals set to honor their nine sophomores prior to the twinbill.
