TYLER, Tx. – An early miscue and a second have surge were too much for LSU Eunice as the Bengals fell to Tyler JC, 4-1, on Tuesday at the Pat Hartley Complex. The Bengals (9-1-1) suffered their first setback of the season in a battle pitting two Top 20 NJCAA teams.
"I was very proud of our team's effort as the score line doesn't tell the competitive nature of the game," LSU Eunice women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "Our team learned that they can compete at the highest levels, but the margin for error is slim against a strong team like TJC."
The No. 2 Apaches roared out to a quick start on the heels of goals separated by a minute. After Mukarama Abdulai netted the first of her brace, a communication breakdown gifted TJC a 2-0 lead.
LSUE responded midway through the first half with Jazmin Torres (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) banging home a Marcela Ramirez (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) corner kick in the 25th minute. The Bengals would also have an opportunity to equalize after Brianna Roberts' (Conroe, TX, Oak Ridge HS) free kick connection to Sherice Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica, Wolmer's HS) barely missing a goal scoring opportunity.
TJC pull away in the second half with goals in the 65th and 78th minutes, respectively.
Mariah Scott (San Antonio, TX, Legacy of Educational Excellence HS) did pull in five saves on the game as Tyler outshot LSUE 18-5.
The 12th-ranked Bengals will get back to action on Sunday, October 6 as Mountain View College comes to Eunice for a doubleheader. The action from Bengals Soccer Complex is scheduled for 5:00PM with the women's game starting the twinbill.
