Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used another staunch defensive effort to pave the way in a 3-0 victory over Mountain View College on Sunday at the Bengals Soccer Complex. The 12th ranked Bengals (10-1-1) secured the team's seventh shutout of the season, ranking 12th nationally in that category.
"We continue to show great effort on the defensive end and today wasn't any different," LSUE women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "This was a good bounce back win as we focus in on the final month of the season."
The two teams played to scoreless gridlock in the first half after a few LSUE offensive opportunities failed to convert.
Marcela Ramirez (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) would get the Bengals on the board first in the 57th minute after taking a
Jazmin Torres (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) feed just in front of the box, smashing it in the left-side corner.
Torres would help push the LSUE lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute with her second assist of the game, volleying to
Abbie Watson (Durham, England, Durham-Johnston Comprehensive School) for the point-blank header finish.
Samaris Alvarado (Houston, TX, Klein Forest HS) would provide the exclamation point with a breakaway goal in the 72nd minute after a link up with
Sherice Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica, Wolmer's HS).
The defense made it an easy afternoon for LSUE goalkeeper
Mariah Scott (San Antonio, TX, Legacy of Educational Excellence HS), facing just one shot on goal in the clean sheet. The Bengals dominated possession in the second half with much of the action on the Mountain View end.
LSUE hits the road on Wednesday for a rematch with current MACJC South leader Pearl River. The Bengals and Wildcats played to a 1-1 weather shortened tie in Eunice on August 28. The action from Poplarville starts at 5:00PM.
