EUNICE, La. – A late season matchup between a pair of NJCAA Top 10 teams lived up to the expectation as No. 9 LSU Eunice dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to No. 10 Hill College on Saturday at the Bengals Soccer Complex. LSUE (12-2-1) closed out the home portion of the regular season with a record of 6-1-1.
"In a game like this, the little things matter and we had one lapse on defense and we paid for it," LSU Eunice women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "We fought hard in the second half to try to tie it up but just came up a little short today."
Jami Anderson delivered the only goal of the game as the midfielder weaved through the Bengals defensive end, tallying a 35th minute goal. It was one of ten shots on goal for the Rebels with Mariah Scott grabbing nine saves.
The Bengals would come up with a few great scoring chances, most notably, a Sherice Clarke rebound attempt that was kicked away by a defender on the goal line. LSUE also had a handful of scoring chances in set pieces that weren't converted.
Clarke's two shots on goal led the LSU offense, who totaled ten shots totals.
LSU Eunice will close out the regular season on Wednesday with a trip to Blinn College. The doubleheader from Brenham, Texas will start at 5:00PM with women's action.
