Ramirez Helps No. 11 Bengals Grab OT Thriller At Blinn

BRENHAM, Texas – Marcela Ramirez (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) played hero for the No. 11 LSU Eunice women's soccer team with a game winner in double overtime for a 2-1 victory over Blinn College on Wednesday at Rankin Field.  The Bengals finished the regular season with a record of 13-2-1 heading into the postseason.

Ramirez notched the "Golden Goal" in the 109th minute after Jazmin Torres (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) Torres helped scoop a loose ball and serve the fellow Conroe High product a few yards in front of the 18-yard box.  The freshman midfielder lofted a high volley that tucked inside the back corner to send LSUE into celebration.

The goal was Ramirez's ninth of the season, currently tied for most on the team with Samaris Alvarado.

That helped break a gridlock after Blinn College tied the contest in the 60th minute after an early first half LSUE goal.  Abbie Watson (Durham, England, Durham-Johnston Comprehensive School) put the Bengals on the board first with a hard strike from mid-range in the 13th minute off a Sherice Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica, Wolmer's HS) assist.

Those two goals part of a Bengals attack that had success getting into the final third but could not capitalize on opportunities, firing off 11 shots on goal.

The LSUE defense turned in another solid performance, limiting Blinn to just three total shots and two on target.

LSU Eunice now turns its attention to the postseason, beginning next Friday with the Region 23 Championship.  The Bengals will host the MACJC Champion on November 1 at 4:00PM from the Bengals Soccer Complex.

The winner will advance to the follow week's South District Play-off against the champion of Region 14.

The Region 23 Championships will be live streamed from Eunice on Bengals All-Access.
