BATON ROUGE, La. – A hot first quarter was too much for LSU Eunice to overcome as Pensacola JC took a 77-69 decision on Saturday at the Lady Bear Classic. LSUE (1-1) split its two games in the season opening tournament.
PJC's Anita Payne scored eight of her team-high 17 points in the first quarter as the Pirates opened up a 29-14 edge in the opening frame.
Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) dominated early play for LSUE, scoring ten of her game-high 24 points in the first quarter.
The Bengals would claw back and outscore PJC in the fourth, 28-17, to get within striking distance but could not close the early gap. Stubblefield would combine with
Ke'Maesha St. Andre (Oakdale, LA, Oakdale HS) for 14 points in the final quarter.
St. Andre finished with nine points on the game, while
Miya McKinney (Ville Platte, LA, Ville Platte HS) was the other Bengal to record a double-digit point effort with 12.
LSU Eunice returns to the Cajun Prairie for its first home game of the season on Thursday, November 7. The Bengals welcome Region 23 opponent Copiah-Lincoln to the HPRE Center for a doubleheader starting at 5:30PM.
Both games will be streamed live on Bengals All-Access.
