Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a late second quarter run to help push past Copiah-Lincoln and take an 85-75 decision on Thursday inside the HPRE Center. The win was the first home game for the Bengals (2-1) under first year head coach Jaime Gonzales.
LSUE trailed 32-24 with 6:11 left in the first half before rattling off a 24-3 into the locker rooms.
Ava Jones (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) poured in 10 of her game-high 25 points in that span as the Bengals went into intermission up 48-35.
The Bengals would see their lead swell to as many as 20 points early in the second half before the Wolfpack would chop away and give LSUE a scare late. Co-Lin would cut the deficit to six points with under 3:30 to play. LSUE would answer with a
Chelsey White (Port Allen, LA, Port Allen HS) basket, followed by a
Le'Shenae Stubblefield (Delhi, LA, Delhi HS) steal and
Claralee Richard (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) basket.
Richard would score 22 points to combine with Jones for 47 of the Bengals 85 points in the contest.
Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) was the other LSUE player to record double figures with 16 points.
The two teams would go back and forth early in the game with seven lead changes and five ties.
A stingy Bengals defense forced 24 turnovers, including 15 steals led by Jones' four.
LSUE will hit the road again next week as the Bengals head to the Angelina College Classic on Friday, November 15.
