BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice turned a scoreless game in the third inning into a mercy-rule 10-0 shutout of Baton Rouge CC on Sunday at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bengals' (22-4) high scoring offense fielded a double-digit run output for the 16th time this season.
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) spearheaded the LSUE offense with a three-hit, four RBI game. Both were career highs for the freshman.
McDonald started the scoring in the fourth inning with a RBI single to plate
River Town (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS), part of four straight hits for the Bengal offense. LSUE would score on four consecutive at-bats capped off by a RBI bunt single by
Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) to give LSUE a 4-0 lead.
Evan Keller (Destrehan, LA, Destrehan HS) would reach on an error in the fifth inning to score Town, followed by another RBI single by McDonald.
Bren Faulk (Abbeville, LA, Erath HS) pushed the LSUE advantage to 7-0 in the sixth inning with a sacrifice ground out.
McDonald again came through in the seventh inning with a two-run double to make it 9-0 Bengals. Merrifield would score the final run with a sacrifice fly to bring home McDonald.
Tristan Welch (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) notched the other multi-hit game for LSUE's nine-hit attack.
That was more than enough for another quality outing by
Dane Dixon (Walker, LA, Walker HS). The sophomore captain improved to 6-0 on the season after a complete game six-hit shutout. Dixon struck out seven batters while not allowing a walk.
LSUE will eye the three-game sweep tomorrow in Baton Rouge CC with a 6:00pm start time from Pete Goldsby Field. The Bayou Sports Network will have an internet audio feed of the game.
