BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice used a pair of BRCC errors and manufactured enough offense to take down Baton Rouge CC 7-2 on Monday at Pete Goldsby Field.
The Bengals were held scoreless through the first three innings before breaking through with a
Nick Bellina (Donaldsonville, LA, Ascension Catholic HS) RBI single.
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) would steal home later in the inning to give LSUE a 2-0 lead. McDonald would help pad the LSUE lead an inning later as his ground ball was mishandled by BRCC for a two-run error.
BRCC's lone runs would come in the sixth inning off a RBI single and wild pitch.
LSUE would get valuable insurance runs late as Nick Bellina plated another run off a sacrifice fly in the eighth. A BRCC error later in the frame helped
Tristan Welch (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) score to give LSUE a 6-2 edge.
Evan Keller (Destrehan, LA, Destrehan HS) capped off the scoring with a sacrifice bunt to bring in
Javier Vaz (Huntsville, AL, Huntsville HS).
Tyler Booth (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) (3-0) looked sharp in his six inning outing, scattered two runs, one earned, on just two hits and two walks. Booth struck out seven Bears on the night as the LSUE arms sat down 13 batters with
Gage Trahan (Maurice, LA, Vermilion Catholic HS) and
Tod Gauthe' (Brusly, LA, Brusly HS) seeing action in relief.
The Bengals return home for a five-game homestand beginning Tuesday with Centenary at Bengal Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00PM. Fans can watch the game online on Bengals All-Access.
