EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice's dominance at home continued on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Blinn College at Lady Bengal Field. LSUE (33-5) improved to 14-0 inside the friendly confines after taking the twinbill.
LSUE used a late surge to secure an 8-2 opener followed by an impressive performance to score a 10-2 run-rule victory.
The Bengals' season's best 14-game homestand continues on Sunday with a doubleheader against San Jacinto College. Both games can be seen live on Bengal All-Access beginning at 1:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Blinn College – W, 8-2
The Bengals used a five-run sixth inning to pull past Blinn College for an 8-2 win in the twinbill opener. LSUE used another great outing in the circle by Jensen Howell to keep the Bucs at bay before the bats awoke.
Howell (14-2) tossed her eighth complete game of the season, giving up two earned runs off nine hits and one walk. The sophomore sat down five batters by strikeout. After loading the bases in the first inning and escaping with one run, Howell allowed just two more batters to advance past second base.
Madison Monson helped LSUE tie up the game in the first inning with a sacrifice fly while Kelci Bodin temporarily gave the Bengals a lead with a third inning solo home run.
After both teams traded runs in the fourth inning, Abbey Higginbotham started the big sixth inning with a solo home run to give LSUE a 4-2 lead. Mallory Little capped off the five-run frame with a RBI single to plate Monson.
Little and Kelci Bodin paced LSUE with multi-hit games in the 9-hit Bengal attack. Monson led the way with two RBIs.
Game 2 vs. Blinn College – W, 10-2 (5 Innings)
LSU Eunice used an early offensive explosion to breeze past Blinn College for a 10-2 run-rule victory. It was the Bengals' 12th mercy rule victory of the season.
After Blinn took a quick one-run lead in the opening inning, the Bengals responded with a five-run first. LSUE loaded the bases off three consecutive one-out walks before Jennifer Perkins gave the Bengals the lead for good with a three-RBI single. Abby Trahan would help the other two runs in the inning come home after a fielding error on a base hit to left field.
The back and forth would continue an inning later as the two teams would swap home runs including Hannah Smith's two-run shot to give LSUE a 7-2 edge.
A Madison Monson RBI single in the third inning and two more runs in the fifth would help LSUE secure the run-rule win.
Hannah Carpenter was the lone Bengal to record a multi-hit game.
Heather Zumo notched a complete game to improve to 12- 2 on the season. Zumo scattered two runs on three hits while not issuing a walk. The sophomore also had one strikeout in the outing.
