Bodin's Bombs Highlight Sunday Sweep of San Jac

EUNICE, La. – Kelci Bodin slammed three home runs to help LSU Eunice sweep San Jacinto on Sunday at Lady Bengal Field.  The two wins helped LSUE (35-5) extend its current win streak to 12 games, all coming during its current homestand.
 
The Bengals used a late surge to separate from the Coyotes in the opener, 14-6, followed by a 13-5 victory sparked by a seven-run frame.
 
LSUE closes out its 14-game homestand next Monday, April 1 with a late season showdown against Tyler JC.  The two top five nationally ranked programs collide at 2:00PM for a scheduled doubleheader.
 
Game 1 vs. San Jacinto College – W, 14-6
The LSUE offense shined throughout to deliver a 14-6 mercy-rule win in six innings.  The Bengals pounded 14 hits on the game, the third most in a game this season.
 
LSUE roared out to a 9-1 lead shouldered by the big hit.  Kelci Bodin and Madison Monson slammed a pair of home runs in the second inning, followed by a four-run third inning.
 
 San Jacinto clawed back to within striking distance with a five-run fourth inning to make it a 9-6 contest.  The Bengals bounced back with five unanswered runs including four runs in the sixth to force a mercy rule win.
 
Kelci Bodin started the late surge with another solo home run in the fifth inning.  Sara Tate paced the final frame with a two-run single on a short fly to left field followed by a walk-off single from Madison Monson.
 
Bodin led the way with three hits, four RBI and four runs on the game.  Tate and Monson added three-RBI outings.
 
Lauren Parson picked up the win after tossing 3.2 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits.  Jeanne Trahan shut down the Coyote bats to grab the save, tossing 2.1 innings of one-hit shutout relief.
 
4294Game 2 vs. San Jacinto College- W, 13-5
The Bengals overcame an early hole to cruise past San Jac 13-5 in a five inning mercy-rule win.  It helped LSUE grab its 14th run-rule win of the year and second of the day.
 
The Coyotes jolted a scare into the Bengals early, scoring three runs in the first inning off a double and two-run homer.  The Bengals would claw back within a run in the bottom half of the frame after a Madison Monson RBI double and sacrifice ground out by Hannah Smith.
 
LSUE would go ahead for go with an emphatic seven run second inning highlighted by back-to-back two-run base hits by Monson and Mallory Little.  Hannah Carpenter's sacrifice ground out closed out the frame to give LSUE a 9-3 edge.
 
The power hitting of the Bengals returned in the third inning with Kelci Bodin and Sara Tate knocking back-to-back solo home runs.  The two blasts were followed by Maddux Kirkland's first collegiate hit scoring Mallory Little to push the Bengals' advantage to 12-3.
 
After two San Jac runs, Hannah Carpenter ensured the run-rule with a walk-off RBI double to score McKenzie King.
 
Heather Zumo (13-2) grabbed her 13th win of the season after tossing four innings, giving up four earned run on seven hits and three strike outs.  Heidi Zumo threw the final inning in relief.
