Bats Pound Panola In 15-Run Outburst

EUNICE, La. – The top of the LSU Eunice lineup explodes for 11-hits to push top-ranked LSU Eunice past No. 18 Panola College, 15-4, on Tuesday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (28-4) pushed its current win streak to 10 games, the second time this year the Bengals have rattled off consecutive double digit victories.

The trio of Evan Keller (Destrehan, LA, Destrehan HS), Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) and Tristan Welch (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) combined to go 11-for-11 on the game with nine RBIs and nine runs scored.  Welch drove in a career best six RBIs to pace the Bengals offense.

Welch started the scoring in the first inning with a RBI single to plate Keller.  Nick Bellina (Donaldsonville, LA, Ascension Catholic HS) would provide the first big shot of the game a batter later, blasting a two-run home run to right center to give LSUE a 3-0 edge.  Austin Kirkpatrick (Breaux Bridge, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) closed the four-run first inning with a RBI triple.

LSUE would go ahead for good with a seven-run third inning highlighted by Welch's bases clearing three run double that would push the lead to 11-1.  Merrifield and Welch would each drive in runs an inning later to make it a 14-1 game after four innings.

Welch brought in Keller for the Bengals' final run of the game with a fifth inning bases loaded hit by pitch.

Keller would score five runs to lead LSUE in that category.

Tyler Booth (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) was solid in the start for LSUE, giving up one earned run on five hits and one walk.  Booth (4-0) also struck out two batters in his four inning outing.  Jacob Hammond (Monroe, LA, Ouachita HS), Tod Gauthe' (Brusly, LA, Brusly HS) and Gage Trahan (Maurice, LA, Vermilion Catholic HS) all pitched an inning of relief.

LSUE will hit the road this Thursday, March 28 for a contest against LSU Alexandria JV.  A scheduled doubleheader against East Texas Baptist University JV has been moved from Wednesday, March 25 to April 24.
