EUNICE, La. – Another strong offensive showing and outing on the mound by Dane Dixon paved the way for LSU Eunice to defeat Baton Rouge CC, 14-2, in run-rule fashion on Sunday at Bengal Stadium. The double-digit offensive output was the Bengals' (35-5) 25th of the season and the 17th run-rule victory of the campaign.
Dane Dixon surpassed the double-digit win plateau after a 5.1 innings outing. The sophomore captain improved to 10-0 on the season after scattering two earned runs off of six hits and three walks. Dixon also added three strikeouts.
Jerry Couch would shut down the Bears with 1.2 innings of one-hit relief.
Jarrett McDonald provided LSUE its offense early, having a hand in five of the first six runs of the game. The freshman sacrificed in River Town in the first inning, drove in a pair with a single in the second inning and would triple home Evan Keller in the fourth inning to give LSUE a 5-1 lead. McDonald would later score on a Tristan Welch sacrifice fly.
McDonald finished 2-for-2 with a season's best five RBIs and three runs scored.
LSUE would build its lead to 10-2 after three bases loaded walks in the fifth and sixth innings. After Tristan Welch sacrificed in another run, Jack Merrifield provided the big blast with a towering two-run home run over the centerfield wall to secure the mercy-rule win.
Hunter Tabb closed the scoring in the inning with a RBI double to make it 14-2 LSUE. Bellina, Merrifield, McDonald and River Town enjoyed multi-hit games as part of LSUE's 10-hit attack.
