SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Eunice plated seven unanswered runs to complete a come-from-behind 12-7 victory at Centenary College on Tuesday. The Bengals (41-5) improved to 9-0 in mid-week games this season.
LSUE trailed 7-5 going into the seventh inning before the Bengals' offense showed signs of life. Nick Bellina began the rally with a sacrifice groundout in the sixth. River Town continued the rally an inning later with a RBI triple to score Javier Vaz, tying the game 7-7.
The Bengals would then strike for five runs in the eighth, punctuated by Tristan Welch's go-ahead solo home run to lead off the inning. Welch's blast was one of two long balls for the Bengals, with Bellina belting a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give LSUE a temporary 4-3 advantage.
Centenary used a three-run second inning to grab the early lead and regained a brief lead in the fifth inning off a Lucas Stetter two-run double.
Javier Vaz and Tristan Welch both produced multi-hit games while Nick Bellina drove in four runs and scored twice to pace the LSUE offense.
Tod Gauthe picked up the win after 2.1 innings of perfect relief. The sophomore struck out four batters as Jake Hammond and Landon Clifton finished off the Gents with perfect outings of an inning each. Clifton struck out the side in the ninth to clinch the victory.
Kade Gonsoulin received the no-decision after starting the game, tossing 3.2 innings.
