TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice used a couple of big frames to score a 14-1 mercy-rule win in seven innings at Tyler Junior College on Saturday at Mike Carter Field. The matchup is the first of a three-game series pitting two top-ranked teams in the NJCAA polls.
Tristan Welch drove in four runs to lead the Bengals' charge as LSUE would plate back-to-back four run frames in the third and fourth innings. LSUE would load the bases in the third innings of two and two singles before Welch's sacrifice groundout made it a 4-0 game. Jack Merrifield would add a sacrifice fly a batter later to end the scoring in the third.
Jarrett McDonald started the fourth inning fireworks with a two-run triple, followed by a Welch RBI double to make it 8-0 LSUE. McDonald would push the LSUE lead to ten runs an inning later with a RBI single and would finish 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
That was more than enough for Andrew Sheridan to pick up his eighth win of the season. Sheridan (W, 8-1) allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out four batters. The sophomore's lone run allowed was a solo home run in the sixth innings while sitting down the side in order three times.
Welch and Hunter Tabb would plate the final runs of the game in the seventh inning off back-to-back hits, Tabb driving in two runs with a double to left field.
Javier Vaz would go notch a three-hit game, scoring three times.
LSUE will continues its series with Tyler JC tomorrow with a 1:00PM doubleheader from Mike Carter Field. Fans can listen to the games live on the Bayou Sports Network.
