TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice's River Town gave the Bengals early offense in the doubleheader opener as part of a split with Tyler Junior College on Monday at Mike Carter Field. The Bengals (32-5) moved their twinbill to Monday after severe rain pounded the East Texas area.
LSUE rode three early RBIs from Town to pave the way for a 4-1 victory before falling 8-3 to close out the weekend series.
The Bengals will return home for a single game on Wednesday against LSU Alexandria. First pitch from Bengal Stadium is set for 6:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Tyler JC – W, 4-1
River Town drove in three early runs to help pace LSUE to a 4-1 win against Tyler JC. The game was a planned seven-inning contest.
Town led off the game with a solo home run to ignite the Bengals offense. The freshman would follow an inning later with a two-out, two-run double to give LSUE a 3-0 lead. Town also scored the other run of the game off a fifth inning Evan Keller RBI single.
Jarrett McDonald joined Town with multi-hit games to lead the seven-hit attack.
That was more than enough for another quality start from Dane Dixon. The sophomore improved to 9-0 on the season after a six-inning outing, scattering one earned run off four hits. Dixon retired the side in order three times, striking out four batters.
Tod Gauthe picked up his first save of the season with a perfect seventh inning that included a strike out.
Game 2 vs. Tyler JC – L, 3-8
LSUE's bats were held in check by Cooper Rawls as Tyler JC scored an 8-3 win to close out the series. The TJC pitcher would scatter two hits and one earned run in six innings.
The Apaches would score three runs in the second inning, building as large as an 8-1 lead.
The Bengals would try to mount a late rally, scoring twice and loading the bases in the final two frames. Evan Keller's eighth inning RBI single was followed by a Hunter Tabb run scoring single in the ninth inning.
Tyler Booth was tagged with the loss after tossing three innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk.
