EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice rebounded in thrilling fashion on Tuesday to score a 9-0 victory over Holmes CC at Bengals Soccer Complex. LSUE (4-1) had seven different goal scorers on the evening.
"Anytime you can get that many players involved on the score sheet, it's good for team morale and shows our squad's depth," LSUE men's soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said. "We emphasized starting fast and the guys did a great job responding to that challenge."
Igor Castillo-Veliz (Baton Rouge, LA, Woodlawn HS) pushed the Bengals ahead in the 4th minute with low bouncer from more than 25 yards away, squeezing past the Holmes goalkeeper on the near side. The Bengals would strike again in bunches, scoring in the 18th and 20th minute with
Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) and
Angelo Fabricio (Jundiai, Brazil, St. Amant HS (LA)) netting goals off turnovers.
Wagner would grab his third hat trick of the season, tallying goals in the 25th and 58th minutes.
Taylor Wilson (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) and
Enzo Bodin (Léhon, France, Les Cordeliers) capped off the six-goal first half with their first career goals for LSUE late in the half.
Albert Ibrahimi (Shipley, England, Shipley College) started the second half scoring with a 50th minute goal by forcing a turnover on Holmes' end, beating a pair of defenders and tucking a low dribbler to his near side. After Wagner's 58th minute penalty kick,
Timon Zech (Starnberg, Germany) added the final score of the night off of a penalty kick as well.
LSUE dominated possession, outshooting Holmes 19-3, with 10 shots on frame.
Zaykeese Smith (Charlestown, St. Kitts & Nevis, Charlestown Secondary School) and
Christian Carrillo (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) split time in net, combining for the clean sheet while each grabbing a save.
LSUE begins a three game road-swing on Tuesday, September 17 with a Region 23 Championship rematch at Jones College. The Bengals defeated the Bobcats on penalty kicks last year in a thriller. Game time from Bobcat Soccer Field is slated for 7:00PM.
