Bengals Start Road Swing With Victory At Jones

ELLISVILLE, Ms. – LSU Eunice used a dominant offensive performance to power past Jones College, 4-2, on Tuesday at Bobcat Soccer Field.  The Bengals (5-1) kicked off a season-long three-game road swing with the win against their Region 23 rival.

LSUE controlled possession for the majority of the game, outshooting Jones 18-8 and winning the corner kick margin, 9-2.

"We've had a pretty solid week of training and it showed up on the field tonight," LSU Eunice men's soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said.  "This is one of our first games to have our entire roster available so our hope is that this is a solid foundation for the road ahead."

Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) put LSUE on the scoreboard in the 16th minute with a nice shot in traffic just inside the box.  Wagner took an Enzo Bodin (Léhon, France, Les Cordeliers) pass, eluded a few Jones defenders before firing one past them and the Jones goalkeeper.  Timon Zech (Starnberg, Germany) also had a hand in build-up, earning an assist on the tally.

The Bobcats would strike back with a 34th minute equalizer, but LSUE responded just before half.  LSUE executed a set piece to perfection with the Bengals receiving a gift off a Jones own goal with a cross getting deflected by a Bobcat among a handful of players rushing the ball.

Wagner secured his brace in the 60th minute on a perfectly timed through ball by Igor Castillo-Veliz (Baton Rouge, LA, Woodlawn HS) as the sophomore forward raced past the Jones backline, beating the Bobcat keeper to the lower left 90.

After Jones crept to within 3-2, Parrish Anderson (Lafayette, LA, Episcopal School of Acadiana) put the game to bed with an 82nd minute goal, his first of his LSUE career.  Hunter Hulin (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) freed up Anderson with a pass into open space before Anderson raced past the defense.

Wagner and Enzo Bodin paced the LSUE offense with four shots each, combining for seven of the team's 14 shots on goal.

Zaykeese Smith (Charlestown, St. Kitts & Nevis, Charlestown Secondary School) tallied four saves off of eight Jones shots, including six on target.

LSUE continues its road stretch with a tilt against East Central CC on the campus of Meridian CC on Friday, September 20.  The doubleheader with the women starts at 1:00PM, with the men's game slated for around 3:00PM.
