MERIDIAN, Ms. –
Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) set a new single-match record with five goals to help pace LSU Eunice to an 8-0 decision over East Central CC on Friday at the Meridian CC Rush Invitational. It was the third time this year that LSUE (6-1) have score more than five goals in a match.
Wagner's five goals gave the sophomore 14 on the season, currently tied for third nationally in NJCAA Division I.
"Noah really took his game to the next level this past offseason and you're seeing the results on the field," LSU Eunice men's head coach Josh McReynolds said. "While Noah gets the recognition on the score sheet, I thought our team did a great job of staying within the system and capitalizing on the advantages we had in the final third."
Wagner started his career day in the 15th minute on a penalty kick, thanks to a foul on
Albert Ibrahimi (Shipley, England, Shipley College) in the box. The Bengals would take a 3-0 edge into halftime after
Taylor Wilson (Carencro, LA, Carencro HS) and
Angelo Fabricio (Jundiai, Brazil, St. Amant HS (LA)) notched goals in the 31st and 36th minutes, respectively.
The sophomore forward would then go on a tear, scoring four consecutive LSUE goals. Wagner's first came a few seconds into the second half, followed by a 60th minute finish. His final two goals of the game came back-to-back, in the 70th and 72nd minutes.
Enzo Bodin (Léhon, France, Les Cordeliers) pushed the Bengals advantage to 8-0 in 89th minute with a converted penalty kick.
While the offense flourished, the defense also quietly had another impressive outing.
Christian Carrillo (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) garnered the clean sheet with only two first half saves as the defense put the clamps on the ECCC offense.
The Bengals continue their season's best three-game road swing on Tuesday at Jacksonville College. The Tuesday twinbill in Texas begins at 5:00PM with women's action, followed by the men at 7:00PM.
