MERIDIAN, Ms. – The LSU Eunice women's soccer team tallied their fifth clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 victory over East Central at the Meridian CC Rush Invitational on Friday. The Bengals (7-0-1) score their third straight win over Region 23 opponents, two coming by way of shutout.
"Our focus on the first day of camp was defense and it will always be what we hang our hats on," LSU Eunice women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "The ladies have shown they can win in a number of ways and I'm very proud of their defensive effort against a solid side."
Jazmin Torres (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) provided an early spark for the Bengals with a fourth minute goal to push LSUE ahead. The freshman received a through ball from
Samaris Alvarado (Houston, TX, Klein Forest HS) inside the box on the right side as Torres finished near the six-yard box for the goal.
It was the winger's third goal of the season.
The Bengals would have several opportunities but could not cash in and instead, turned up the heat on the defensive end. LSUE allowed just two shots on goal, with
Mariah Scott (San Antonio, TX, Legacy of Educational Excellence HS) handling a diving save in the first half to preserve the goose egg.
LSUE continues its road trip Tuesday, September 24 with a trip to Jacksonville College. The doubleheader with the Jaguars is set for a 5:00PM start time with the women's game leading things off.
