NEW ORLEANS, La. – LSU Eunice men's basketball used a late run to secure an 81-71 win at Delgado on Wednesday inside the Williamson Center. The Bengals (15-4) wrapped up the first of three legs of conference play unbeaten to take an early edge in the LCCAC standings.
LSUE and Delgado went back and forth for the majority of the first half with six ties and six lead changes in the first 20 minutes. The Bengals outscored the Dolphins 10-4 in the final 2:24 of the half to take a 34-28 lead into the break, the largest lead of the game at the time.
The Bengals dominated on the glass in the first half with a 24-16 lead on the glass, led by seven rebounds from
Mamady Djikine (Paris, France, Lee Academy (ME)). The sophomore would grab a season-high 16 rebounds and score 14 points for his second straight double-double.
Jonathan Cisse (Grand Coteau, LA, St. Thomas More HS) and
Tyrone Hugue (Mansfield, TX, Lake Ridge HS) would take over after intermission, combining for 28 points including 10-for-11 at the free throw line. Cisse and Hugue would both pour in 20 points on the night.
The Dolphins would tie the game, 41-41, with 15:42 remaining in the game. LSUE would rattle off a quick 7-0 run keyed by a Cisse three-pointer and would never let go of the lead. The Bengals would build as large as a 14-point lead late in the game.
LSUE will close out a three-game road swing on Saturday with a trip to Baton Rouge CC. The Bengals and Bears will close out the matinee doubleheader at 4:00PM.
