EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice baseball scored 12 unanswered runs to clinch a 14-4 run-rule win in eight innings over Coastal Alabama-South on Thursday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE's (7-0) spurt came the final four innings of the game after being held to just four hits the first four innings.
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) started the rally in the fifth with a two out RBI single to drive in
Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS). That would help ignite the first of two four-run frames for the Bengals. The heart of the LSUE lineup helped the Bengals regain the lead with
River Town (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) and Merrifield each driving in runs in the sixth inning including Merrifield's go-ahead two RBI single that also saw the sophomore score on the same play thanks to a throwing error.

Thomas Stevens (Crowley, LA, Notre Dame HS) would help LSUE push the lead to 8-4 an inning later with a towering solo home run to left field. Javier Vaz and Merrifield would also play a role in the at-bat, each helping produce runs.
Merrifield, coming off NJCAA National Player of the Week honors, would finish 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace the 14-hit LSUE attack.
LSUE would trigger the mercy rule in the eighth as Jarrett McDonald capped off his 3-RBI game, driving in
Charles Gordon (Alvin, TX, Alvin HS). The Bengals would then use a
Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) RBI single, and two wild pitches to get to the ten-run threshold.

Hebert enjoyed a 3-hit game, a new career high for the sophomore shortstop.
While the offense clicked, it was
Caleb Seroski (Breaux Bridge, LA, Breaux Bridge HS) that silenced the pesky SunChief offense. The freshman picked up his first collegiate win with four shutout relief innings, giving up just two hits while striking out five batters.
Simon Miller (Canton, TX, Canton HS) received the no decision after tossing four full, giving up four earned runs off three hits and five walks while striking out three batters.
LSUE jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a bases loaded hit by pitch on Jarrett McDonald and a fourth inning solo home run by
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS). The SunChiefs would respond with a four-run fifth inning, only setting the stage for LSUE's comeback.
LSUE will continue its series with Coastal Alabama-South tomorrow at Bengal Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00PM and the game can be live streamed on Bengal All-Access.
