No. 1 LSUE Fans School Record 20 In Friday Win

EUNICE, La. – There was no love on Valentine's Day from LSU Eunice pitchers as the Bengals struck out a single-game school record 20 batters in a 6-1 win over Coastal Alabama CC-South on Friday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (8-0) secured their 31st straight weekend series win against the same opponent, dating back to the 2017 season.

Freshman Drew Lasseigne (Greenwell Springs, LA, Central HS) turned in a masterful performance, striking out 12 batters in six innings of work.  Lasseigne was able to get out of two SunChief scoring threats with a third inning centerfield assist by Javier Vaz (Huntsville, AL, Huntsville HS) on a putout at home and a bases loaded two-out strikeout an inning later.

The Central-Baton Rouge HS product struck out six of the final eight batters he faced.  The right-hander would only yield three hits while issuing three walks.

Kole Myers celebrates a 3-run home run

LSUE was able to get all the offense it needed in the first inning with a four-run frame.  Thomas Stevens (Crowley, LA, Notre Dame HS) put the Bengals on the board with a bases loaded sacrifice fly, and was followed up by a Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) towering three-run home run.  The Bengals would get three of their seven hits on the game in the first inning.

The Bengals would pad their lead in the sixth and seventh innings with runs off a throwing error and Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) sacrifice ground out.

Jacob Hammond (Monroe, LA, Ouachita HS) would finish out the game in similar fashion to Lasseigne, striking out eight batters while giving up just one hit, an eighth inning home run for the lone CACC-South run of the game.

LSUE will look for its third straight weekend sweep of the early season with a 1:00PM Saturday matinee at Bengal Stadium.  The game will be live streamed on Bengal All-Access.
