CLINTON, Miss. - For the first time in the program history, LSU Eunice men's basketball will play in the Region 23 Tournament beginning March 3 on the campus of Mississippi College.  The Bengals (20-5) will enter the eight-team tournament field as the number three seed and play Jones College in the opener round on Tuesday at 1:00PM.
 
LSUE qualified for the tournament by capturing the Louisiana Community Colleges Athletic Conference (LCCAC) regular season crown in just the team's second year of existence.  The Bengals went 8-1 in LCCAC play with an average margin of victory of 19 points.
 
The sophomore trio of Mamady Djikine (Paris, France, Lee Academy (ME)), Jevon Berry (Arnaudville, LA, Cecilia HS) and Tyrone Hugue (Mansfield, TX, Lake Ridge HS) will be relied on heavily this week after averaging more than 10 points each during the regular season.  Hugue has scored double-digit points in each of the last eight games for the Bengals.
 
Jones College enters the Region 23 Tournament with an 18-6 record, finishing the MACJC tournament in the semifinals.  The Bobcats fell to No. 2 Pearl River in overtime, 90-85.  Jones is led by sophomore guard SharDarrion Allen who averages 17.3 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game.
 
The winner of the LSUE/Jones first round game will face the winner Northeast Mississippi and Northwest Mississippi in Thursday's semifinal round.  Pearl River is the overall number one seed and defending champion in the tournament.
 
The winner of the single-elimination bracket earns the Gulf District berth in the upcoming NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
