BEEVILLE, Texas – LSU Eunice showcased a balanced offense to propel the Bengals past Coastal Bend College in a 91-65 victory on Thursday. It's the fourth time LSUE (2-1) has scored more than 90 points under second year head coach Jaime Gonzales.
The Bengals used outside shooting and dominance from
Chelsey White (Port Allen, LA, Port Allen HS) inside to corral the Cougars to a third straight win over the Region 14 foe.
Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) provided an early spark with ten first quarter points, 17 in the first half alone, to spot the Bengals a 45-28 lead at halftime. Washington would pour in 24 points to lead LSUE offensively.
The sophomore guard spearheaded the assault from outside, connecting on four of the team's 12 three-point baskets.
Brooklyn Fontenot (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) and
Trinity Harold (Denham Springs, LA, Walker HS) each added three from downtown apiece.
Chelsey White turned in arguably her best game in an LSUE uniform, scoring a career best 18 points.
The Bengals separated themselves in the second quarter, outscoring Coastal Bend 23-12 in the critical frame.
LSUE continues its Texas road swing with a date Friday at McLennan CC. Tip-off from Waco is slated for 5:30PM.
