Waco, Texas – Another balanced effort paved the way for LSU Eunice in a 70-59 road win over McLennan CC on Friday at the Highlands.  The Bengals (3-1) completed a four-game season-opening road trip in Texas, taking the last two dates in the Lone Star State.
 
LSUE overcame a sluggish start, trailing 8-5 with 3:10 left to play in the first quarter.  The Bengals used the tag team of Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) and Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) to eventually take the lead and take over the game for good, as the duo scored the final seven points of the quarter for LSUE, giving the Bengals a 15-12 edge.
 
Washington and Smith would score 22 of the team's 36 points in the half as both players would record 15 points.  LSUE outscored McLennan 21-9 in the second quarter to take a commanding 36-21 advantage into the locker rooms.
 
Tanisha Hester (Houma, LA, Ellender HS) and Tanisha Hester (Houma, LA, Ellender HS)r took over as the dynamic duo after halftime.  The Hesters combined for 16 points to help hold off a late charge from McLennan.  Tanisha Hester would record double-digit points on the night, tallying 12 off the bench.
 
Eight different Bengals scored at least a basket in the winning cause.
 
LSUE will face its fifth Region 14 opponent of the early season with a road trip on Wednesday to Bossier Parish CC.  Tip-off from the Port City is scheduled for 5:30PM.
