Bengals Claw Back, Defeat BPCC In OT

BOSSIER, La. – LSU Eunice erased a 12-point deficit late in the first half to upend Bossier Parish CC, 85-80, in overtime on Wednesday at Billy Montgomery Gym.  It was the Bengals' (4-1) third straight victory over the Cavaliers, now owning the all-time series record against the in-state rival, 6-5.

The Bengals found themselves in a hole after an uncharacteristic shooting performance in the first half.  LSUE went 0-for-14 from three-point, averaging just 22.2 percent (8-for-36) from the field in the first 20 minutes to spot Bossier Parish a 35-26 advantage at intermission.

LSUE exploded out the gate after halftime, on the back of a breakout night from Brooklyn Fontenot (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS).  The freshman poured in a game and career's best 23 points while going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and corralling eight rebounds.  The Bengals would erase the deficit and trail by two going into the final frame.

The LSU Eunice defense clamped down in crunch time as BPCC shot just 30.7 percent (16-for-52) in the second half and overtime.  The Cavaliers were held to just 2-for-9 in the extra frame as LSUE was able to push ahead comfortably late in OT for the victory.

Fontenot was one of five Bengals to score double-digit points, joined by Trastasia Hester (Houma, LA, Ellender HS) (17 points), Tanisha Hester (Houma, LA, Ellender HS) (14 points), Chelsey White (Port Allen, LA, Port Allen HS) (14 points), and Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) (11 points).  White also shined with eight blocks, tied for second most in program history for a single game.

LSUE will stay on the road with an added game this Saturday against third-ranked and perennial power Chipola College.  The action from Florida is slated to begin at 5:00PM.
