Bengals Offense Explodes In Saturday Routs

ANDALUSIA, Ala. – LSU Eunice's high powered offense was on full display as the Bengals produced a pair of double-digit wins over L.B. Wallace on Saturday at Crum Foshee Field. 
 
The Bengals (12-0) accounted for 35 runs, 43 hits, 8 home runs and 18 total extra base hits in the 14 innings of baseball played.
 
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) enjoyed a seven hit day while Ayden Makarus (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) would drive in seven runs over the twinbill.
 
The Bengals close out the weekend series with the Saints at 12:00PM on Sunday.
 
Game 1 vs. L.B. Wallace CC – W, 20-5
LSU Eunice blasted six home runs, including five in one inning, to cruise past L.B. Wallace, 20-5, in a seven inning mercy-rule win.
 
The Bengals long ball parade started in the sixth inning with Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) lifting off a three-run home run, part of a five-run sixth.  LSUE would belt five out of the park the next inning starting with a three-run homer from Thomas Stevens.
 
Michael Fontenot (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS), Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS), Christian Gonzales (Breaux Bridge, LA, Breaux Bridge HS) and Cole Romero (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) would follow suit in the seventh with their first home runs of the season, all coming in as pinch hitters.  The five bombs extended LSUE's lead to 20-1.
 
15 different Bengals collected a hit in LSUE's 25-hit output led by Peyton LeJeune's 4-for-5 game, driving in a run and scoring once.  Romero, Darian Richard (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS), Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS), Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS), Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS), and Hebert collected multi-hit games.
 
Jerry Couch (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) continued his stellar season on the mound, tossing six innings while scattering one earned run off one hit and a walk.  Couch (4-0) struck out three batters before being relieved by Miles Clack (Katy, TX, Seven Lake HS) and Jackson Fraser (Buena Vista, Saskatchewan, Canada, Foothills Composite HS).
 
Game 2 vs. L.B. Wallace CC – W, 15-5
LSU Eunice showed no signs of slowing down the offensive firepower, taking a 15-5 decision over L.B. Wallace to close out the Saturday doubleheader.
 
The Bengals picked up right where they left off, scoring six runs in the opening frame.  Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) and Ayden Makarus produced two-run hits in the inning.
 
The Saints crept back into the game with two home runs in the second inning, cutting the LSUE lead to 8-5.  The Bengals responded with authority thanks to Hunter Tabb and Makarus both knocking homers of their own to bump up the LSUE to 11-5. 
 
The Bengals added four more in the seventh headlined by another run producing hit from Makarus.  The catcher drove in a season's best six RBIs on a 4-for-5 outing, collecting three extra base hits.
 
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS), Peyton LeJeune, Jack Merrifield, Tabb and Jarrett McDonald has multiple hits in the 18-hit barrage.
 
Jacob Hammond (Monroe, LA, Ouachita HS) grabbed the win after tossing 3.2 innings of perfect relief.  Hammond sat down four batters while not issuing a hit or walk.
