KILGORE, Tx. – LSU Eunice completed a road Saturday sweep at Kilgore College on Saturday
The Bengals secured their second shutout of the season in a 6-0 victory to open the twin bill, followed by a 11-3 run-rule decision in six innings. Maddie Leal paced the LSUE offense with six hits over the two games, including one of the team's four home runs on the day.
LSUE's road trip continues Wednesday with an afternoon doubleheader at Baton Rouge CC starting at 1:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Kilgore College, W 6-0
Rylie Candella's first inning home run set the tone for the Bengals, as LSU Eunice shutout Kilgore College 6-0 in the opener. The two-run home run was seventh of the season, ranking Candella third on the team but 7th nationally.
LSUE would manufacture three more runs off an error, hit by pitch and bunt before Gracie King provided the exclamation point with another long ball, a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning.
It was King's 10th home run of the season, the most in NJCAA Division II.
Maddie Leal was the lone LSUE player to record a multi-hit game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run scored.
Raegan Pilgreen (5-1) provided another steady outing in the circle, going six full innings while scattering just four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Cendall Barton threw a one-hit seventh inning to help in the shutout cause.
Game 2 vs. Kilgore College, W 11-3
The top three batters in the LSUE lineup broke loose for six hits and six RBIs to pace the Bengals to an 11-3 run-rule victory over Kilgore College to complete a Saturday sweep. It was the Bengals' fifth mercy rule win of the season.
LSU Eunice was quick out of the gate, plating three runs including a lead-off solo home run from Sydnei Simon. The Rangers responded with two runs in the second and would trail 4-3 in the fifth before the floodgates opened for LSUE.
Maddie Leal helped sparked some late inning offense with a solo home run in the fifth inning, followed by six runs in the sixth to trigger the mercy rule. Olivia Hennen provided a critical bases loaded triple and would later score on a Gracie King sacrifice ground out to do most of the damage in the inning.
Leal enjoyed another 3-hit game, scoring three times while Simon and Katelyn Courville posted multi-hit games.
Kinsley Ashworth grabbed the win, tossing four innings in relief. Ashworth (4-2) scattered one run off four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Starter Chloe Brouillette pitched two innings.
