BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice's high powered offense continued its tear with a pair of impressive mercy rule wins over Baton Rouge CC on Thursday. The Bengals (21-8) scored 28 runs off 31 hits, smashed six home runs and collected 16 extra base hits over the two games.
Karli Fontenot (Ville Platte, LA, Sacred Heart-Ville Platte HS) enjoyed a career day, tallying six hits, eight RBIs and three runs scored. The freshman also belted three home runs.
The Bengals used an early surge in Game 1 to take a 15-5 decision, while pouring it on late in the capper to secure the sweep 13-5.
LSU Eunice returns home this Saturday to host LSU Alexandria in a single game at 12:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 15-5
LSU Eunice raced out to an eight-run lead and never looked back in a 15-5 mercy-rule victory in five innings.
The Bengals plated four runs in both the first and second innings, using a two-run
Olivia Hennen (Choudrant, LA, Choudrant HS) double to get the onslaught started. Karli Fontenot would drive in one of her three RBIs a few batters later, followed by a run off passed ball.
An inning later, LSUE used three hits and walk to push the lead to 8-0. Fontenot would cap the frame with a RBI double.
After BRCC responded with a pair in the second, both teams scratched three runs in the third including a two-run home run from
Sydnei Simon (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS). The Bengals would trigger the mercy rule win with four runs in the final two innings including a two-run single by Olivia Hennen, part of her four RBI game.
Fontenot paced LSUE's 15-hit outburst with a 3-for-3 game, followed by multi-hit games from Hennen, Simon and
Maddie Leal (Houston, TX, Spring HS).
Simon also picked up the win after tossing three innings, scattering two runs off six hits and three walks. Simon combined with
Raegan Pilgreen (Ruston, LA, Quitman HS) and
Chloe Brouillette (Mansfield, LA, Stanley HS) for eight strikeouts.
Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 13-5
LSU Eunice belted four home runs to help the Bengals secure another run-rule victory over Baton Rouge CC, 13-5. The Bengals were led by another offensive gem from Karli Fontenot, smashing a pair of home runs as well as collecting five RBIs.
Fontenot and the Bengals put up four quick runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run double by the freshman. Her two-run homer in the fourth pushed the LSUE advantage to 8-2.
Sydnei Simon, Fontenot and
Rylie Candella (Centerville, LA, Centerville HS) would blast a trio of home runs in the final two innings and LSUE separated itself from the Bears late.
Gracie King (Winnsboro, LA, Franklin Parish HS), Fontenot, Candella and Simon all had three-hit games while Maddie Leal also had a multi-hit contest.
Cendall Barton (Elmer, LA, Alexandria Senior HS) picked up her third win of the year after twirling four innings, giving up three earned runs off five hits and three walks.
