Bengals Roar Late To Score Win At Panola College

CARTHAGE, Texas – LSU Eunice baseball scored eight runs in the final two innings to rally past Panola College 15-8 on Monday at Jim Reeves Memorial Field.  The victory makes the second this time season the Bengals (24-3) rallied from a deficit in the final two innings.

LSUE had its backs against the wall from the start as the Ponies raced out to a 5-0 lead through two innings.  Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) would set the stage for the Bengals' rally with a two-run home run in the third inning part, part of a five-run frame.

The Bengals would take the lead an inning later off a Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) bases loaded walk and Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) RBI single.  The back-and-forth would continue as Panola would regain the lead, 8-7, after sixth inning home run and wild pitch in the seventh.

LSUE would explode for seven runs off just three hits while capitalizing on three walks and two hit by pitches.  Beau Kirsch (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) provided the big hit with a three-run double to push the lead to 14-8.  Merrifield provided another run in the ninth with his third RBI of the game.  He and Kirsch led the Bengals with a trio of RBI's each.

Miles Clack (Katy, TX, Seven Lake HS) turned in his best performance to date with the Bengals, receiving a no decision while tossing 5.1 innings of solid relief.  Clack struck out six batters while scattering four runs off seven hits and four walks.  Bryson Connell (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) picked up the baton and grabbed the win after getting two outs in the seventh.

Austin Andrishok (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) and Noah Beason (Lufkin, TX, Huntington HS) strung together back-to-back scoreless innings to close out the game.

Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) led the offense with a three-hit afternoon, joined by Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS), Merrifield, Scott Jones (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) and Kirsch with multi-hit games in the LSUE's 13-hit output.

LSU Eunice continues its road trip on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Nunez CC scheduled for 4:00PM.
