EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice turned a one-run deficit in the fourth inning into a mercy-rule victory, blowing past Centenary College JV 16-6 in seven innings on Tuesday at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (17-2) wrapped up a grueling six games in five days stretch with the win, finishing the stretch 4-2.
Trailing 6-5, The Bengals ripped off 11 unanswered runs including a five-run fourth inning.
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) gave LSUE the lead for good with a fourth inning grand slam to push the Bengals ahead 10-6.
Michael Fontenot (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) would add a three-run long ball an inning later as LSUE's lead ballooned to 14-6.
Thomas Stevens (Crowley, LA, Notre Dame HS) drove in a run in the sixth, followed by
Beau Kirsch (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) walking off the run-rule victory by scoring on one of three Centenary errors.
Hart and Fontenot drove in a combined nine runs in their first collegiate starts, with Fontenot pacing LSUE's 21-hit barrage with a 4-for-5 outing, driving in four runs and scoring three times.
Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS),
Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS), Stevens,
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS), Hart, Kirsch and
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) all had multi-hit games for the Bengals.
LSUE raced out to a quick 3-0 lead highlighted by a second inning two-run double from LaRocca. Centenary responded with six runs in the third and fourth, chasing LSUE starter
Jase McDonald (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS).
Brock Barthelemy (Gonzales, LA, Dutchtown HS) (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win tossing three shutout innings of relief, including working out of a bases loaded jam.
Jackson Fraser (Buena Vista, Saskatchewan, Canada, Foothills Composite HS),
Noah Beason (Lufkin, TX, Huntington HS) and
Dylan Beier (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) also saw time in relief.
LSU Eunice takes a few days off before returning to play on Friday against Baton Rouge CC at Bengal Stadium. First pitch from Eunice is scheduled for 6:00PM.
