CHALMETTE, La. – LSU Eunice completed a four-game sweep with week with a pair of wins over Nunez CC in Chalmette on Sunday. The game was moved a day due to continued rain in south Louisiana.
The Bengals rallied for a 7-3 opening win, followed by a runaway 13-0 decision in the finale. Jack Merrifield led the way for the Bengals with nine RBIs, four runs scored and delivered the game winning runs in each game.
LSU Eunice will be back in action at home this Wednesday for a doubleheader against Delgado CC at 4:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Nunez CC – W, 7-3
LSU Eunice overcome a 3-0 hole with seven unanswered runs in a 7-3 victory.
Cole Romero jumpstarted the stagnant Bengal bats with a RBI single in the fifth. Jarrett McDonald tied the game up an inning later with a two-run home run, his team's best tying 11th of the season.
The Bengals would string together four runs in the final at-bat of the seven inning game with Jack Merrifield's two-run single the go-ahead runs.
Austin Andrishok picked up the win, silencing the Pelicans during the LSUE comeback attempt. Andrishok (4-0) delivered two no-hit innings of relief with one walk and one strikeout. Drew Lasseigne was given a no decision after five strong frames, striking out six batters.
Game 2 vs. Nunez CC – W, 13-0
Jack Merrifield produced the first seven runs for LSUE as the Bengals scored a runaway win, 13-0, in five innings.
Merrifield blasted a three-run home run and grand slam in the first two innings to give the Bengals a commanding lead. The 7-RBI game was a career high for the sophomore.
After Bryce LaRocca pushed the Bengals' lead to 8-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly, LSUE added four more runs in the fourth highlighted by a Scott Jones two-run double.
Kole Myers concluded the scoring with a RBI single in the fifth inning.
Merrifield and Hunter Tabb collect multi-hit games in LSUE's 9-hit output.
Cade Hart picked up the win after tossing all five innings, scattering six hits while striking out seven batters.
