SHREVEPORT, La. - LSU Eunice raced out to a quick nine run lead and never looked back, taking a 13-0 decision over Centenary College JV in seven innings on Monday at Shehee Stadium. It is the Bengals' (33-3) 12th run-rule victory of the season.
The Bengals were quick out of the gate, scoring five runs in the opening inning. After an error on a
Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) base hit allowed
Christian Gonzales (Breaux Bridge, LA, Breaux Bridge HS) to score,
Ayden Makarus (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) doubled home a pair of runs.
Cole Romero (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) and
Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) would extend the lead to 5-0 with RBI base hits.
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) kept the hot bats going in the second with a solo home run followed by a Merrifield two-run single. After
Thomas Papadopoulos (Brooklyn, NY, Xaverian HS) scored on another Centenary error, LSUE's lead swelled to 9-0 after two innings.
The advantage grew to 12 runs in the fourth inning when LSUE capitalized on two more errors and a Romero sacrifice grounder out.
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) closed out the scoring in the fifth, doubling home Myers.
Merrifield went 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs and a run scored to lead the way, joined by LaRocca with multi-hit games.
Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) (2-0) picked up the win after tossing four shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
Jackson Fraser (Buena Vista, Saskatchewan, Canada, Foothills Composite HS),
Noah Beason (Lufkin, TX, Huntington HS),
Jase McDonald (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) and Christian Gonzalez pitched the final three innings of relief.
The Bengals turn their attention the remainder of the week to Baton Rouge CC. LSUE heads to the Bears on Wednesday for a 4PM doubleheader, followed by a return trip to the Cajun Prairie on Saturday for a 2PM twinbill.
