EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice produced arguably its most complete game of the early campaign with a 10-0 victory over Kellogg CC on Friday at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (10-1) scored the first game of the four-game set pitting the top two preseason ranked teams in the NJCAA ranks as well as a rematch of last year's World Series semifinals.
LSUE was quick to the scoreboard with
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) driving in a run and then scoring off a
Michael Fontenot (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) triple.
The Bengals pushed comfortably ahead in the third, striking for five more runs highlighted by freshmen
Aiden Vosburg (Jarreau, LA, Catholic-Pointe Coupee HS) and
Reed Eason (West Monroe, LA, West Monroe HS) having a hand in four of the runs. Vosburg would single home a run, followed by Eason's two-run single. Vosburg would cap off the frame by scoring on a first-and-third double steal with Eason.
LSUE put the run rule into effect in the fourth as the Bengals manufactured a pair of runs off an error and sacrifice fly before
Beau Kirsch (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) singled home
Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS) to make it 10-0.
Kirsch,
Darian Richard (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) and Eason all had two RBI games to led in plate production while Kirsch was the lone Bengal to have a multi-hit game.
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) scored three times while also tallying a team-high four stolen bases. LSUE would steal double digit bases (10) for the second time this season.
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) improved to 2-0 on the season, making his third straight "Friday Night" start for the Bengals. Hart scattered two hits and three walks in five scoreless innings while including four strikeouts.
The sophomore and the Bengal defense worked out of traffic in the fourth after allowing the first two Kellogg base runners with free passes. Hart would strike out a batter, followed by a line drive double play to Vosburg as shortstop who would throw to first for the out on the force.
