NEW ORLEANS, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball would catch fire in the second quarter and have enough to hold on for a 63-61 victory over Delgado on Saturday at the Williamson Center.
Holding on to a slim 12-11 lead, the Bengals would see their lead grow to a dozen by halftime after a 22-point quarter.
Josie Ogea (Big Lake, LA, Bell City HS) scored eight of her nine points in the critical frame including two of the team's four trifectas of the period. LSUE would go 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the second quarter to hold a 34-22 lead at intermission.
LSUE would hold on to the lead until a three-pointer from the Dolphins tied the game at 60 with 1:50 left in regulation. After temporarily losing the lead,
Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) made a layup with 31 seconds left to give LSUE the lead back. An Ogea free throw and missed layup at the horn would be the decider for the Bengals.
Smith poured in 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead the LSUE cause as the only player in double figures.
Vanessa Duhe (Lacassine, LA, Lacassine HS) grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Bengals own a 43-33 advantage on the glass.
LSUE will close out the regular season on Wednesday as the Bengals welcome Southern-Shreveport for a 5:30PM tip-off.
