Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a second quarter explosion to run past Southern-Shreveport 86-54 on Wednesday at the HPRE Center. The Bengals (14-10, 7-2 LCCAC) honored seven sophomores before the game during the regular season finale.
With the win, LSUE clinches the number three seed in the upcoming Region 23 Tournament and will hist first round action on Monday. The Bengals will take on the winner of the 14-19 play-in game featuring Delgado and Holmes CC.
The Bengals found themselves in an early 16-11 hole in the first quarter before storming past the Jaguars. The outside game would help LSUE early, knocking down four three-pointers in the first frame.
LSUE would rattle off a 21-3 run from late in the first quarter to three minutes remaining in the half to build 32-19 advantage. The inside duo of
Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS)h and
Vanessa Duhe (Lacassine, LA, Lacassine HS) would combine for 15 of the Bengals' 22 second quarter points as LSUE would take a 37-23 lead into the break.
The long-range basket would come back to life after half as LSUE would sink three more from deep range in the third quarter as the Bengals' lead would swell to 26 points heading into the final frame.
LSUE would bucket 10 three-point baskets on the night, including four from
Kendall Miller (Iota, LA, Iota HS). The Iota HS product record a career-high 14 points in her Sophomore Day game.
Tahjea Smith and
Josie Ogea (Big Lake, LA, Bell City HS)a would join Miller with double figures, scoring 14 points and 12 points respectively. A balanced effort from LSUE, the Bengals would have every rostered player score at least three points including seven with at least eight points.
The 32-point margin of victory was the Bengals' largest of LCCAC play this season.
