EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice broke up a tie game with a three-run sixth inning to give the Bengals an 8-4 win over Baton Rouge CC on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (23-6) forces a rubber match tomorrow against BRCC in Baton Rouge.
The Bengals got another terrific outing on the mound by
Patrick Vienne (Natchitoches, LA, St. Mary's HS). The freshman received a no decision after tossing five innings, giving up four runs off six hits and two walks. Vienne improved his team best strikeout total to 55 after eight punchouts.
LSUE would hand the ball to
Jackson Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS), who picked up the win after four innings of one-hit relief. Rodriguez sat down four batters while not issuing a walk.
Three errors helped LSUE plate three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. A wild throw on a relay allowed
Reed Eason (West Monroe, LA, West Monroe HS) to score from second. A miscue in the outfield brought home
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) two batters later, followed by
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) scoring on a BRCC error.
Bryce LaRocca's (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) sacrifice fly provided an insurance run in the seventh inning.
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) and
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) provided the offensive punch earlier in the game. Myers blasted an opposite field two-run home run in the second, while LeJeune tied the game in the fourth, 4-4, with a two-run single.
Parker Coley was the lone Bengal to have a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
